Finding Light in Anxiety

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

Psalm 34:18

Your chest feels tight. Your mind races with what-ifs. The worry sits heavy, making it hard to breathe, hard to focus, hard to pray. You wonder if God feels distant, if He hears you through the noise in your head.

Here's what anxiety tries to convince you of: that you're alone, that something is wrong with you, that faith means never feeling afraid. But none of that is true.

God doesn't demand perfect peace before He draws near. Psalm 34:18 tells us plainly—the Lord is close to the brokenhearted. Not the strong. Not the ones who have it all figured out. The hurting ones. The anxious ones. The ones whose minds won't quiet down.

Anxiety isn't a sign of weak faith. It's a sign you're human, living in a broken world where things feel uncertain and scary sometimes. And Jesus meets us there. He knows what it's like to be "deeply distressed and troubled" (Mark 14:33-34). He understands.

You don't have to hide your anxiety from God or pretend it isn't there. Bring it to Him—the racing thoughts, the chest tightness, the fear that won't let go. He's not shocked. He's not disappointed. He's present.

Sometimes peace comes in a moment. Sometimes it comes slowly, one breath at a time, one day at a time. Either way, you are not walking through this alone. God is with you in the anxiety, offering light even when it feels dark.

To try this week

When anxiety rises today, pause and place your hand on your heart. Breathe slowly and say aloud: "The Lord is close to me. I am not alone." Repeat it as many times as you need. Let truth anchor you when worry tries to pull you under.

A closing prayer

Lord, my mind feels loud and my heart feels heavy. I need You near. Calm the storm inside me and remind me that You are here, even in this anxiety. Help me breathe. Help me trust. Amen.
